Students who are in first through fourth grades have guidance classes twice a month and kindergarteners meet with me every week. Classes are held on Fridays of each week. The elementary guidance counselors have adopted the following curriculums for the elementary grade levels.
KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE Second Step curriculum is a classroom-based program is designed to teach children how to understand and manage their emotions, control their reactions, be aware of others’ feelings, and have the skills to problem-solve and make responsible decisions.
THIRD GRADE Third graders are exposed to career readiness through the Career Camp curriculum as well as through the use of "Career Connection" and "Making the Link" lessons and activities. New lessons from "Me and My Job" will be incorporated this year. Other areas of study include relationships and friendships as well as the continued teaching of character traits and good decision making skills.
SECOND GRADE Character First Education is a character-based leadership development program. The lessons provide fun, engaging, positive, practical, and research-based activities that will help students build the character and competence needed for success.
FOURTH GRADE Fourth graders continue with the career awareness Career Camp curriculum with expanded lessons to include website exploration of career options. Other areas of study include cyberbullying and good leadership skills. Second semester classes focus on test taking skills and the transition to the middle school.
